It is with deep sorrow that Hālau O ‘Aulani learned of the recent passing of Dorothy “Aunty Kanani” Mathias Awai.
Aunty Kanani was one of our beloved special instructors. As she did with many keiki in Hawai‘i, Aunty would come and teach us the same cultural values and lessons she instilled in her own children as they grew up. She was a talented musician too! We will sorely miss her. She is survived by her sons and our kumu, Keith and Kimo Awai. Our heartfelt sympathy and aloha go out to Kumu Keith, Kumu Kimo and their family.
